It was/had been/began a delightful day until it suddenly went bad. I was/had been/am currently enjoying a serene afternoon hiking/strolling/exploring in the bush when I realized/discovered/noticed that the path/trail/route behind me/I had taken was gone/missing/vanished. Anxiety/Dread started/set in as I looked around/scanned my surroundings/examined the area but could not/was unable to find/locate/discover any sign of a way out/exit/passage.
